UNITY DELUSION

September 16th | Pastor Gino

The assassination of Charlie Kirk has weighed heavily on me. Much more than I expected. After giving it a lot of thought, I wanted to finally share where I am at.

There have been calls for unity from both the political left and right in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Yet what many fail to see, and what Charlie himself understood, is that there can be no true unity between the Christian worldview and the unbelieving world, especially a world steeped in evil and demonic ideology. Still, a subtle but pervasive notion persists: that apart from our religious convictions, we are essentially the same. But this is one of Satan’s most effective deceptions.

The devil doesn’t always roar in open rebellion, but whispers a counterfeit peace to make men believe that unity without Christ is possible, when in reality it is the very path to destruction. He disguises himself as an angel of light to persuade men that they can have fellowship with Christ and Belial, but what fellowship can light have with darkness or what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness (2 Corinthians 6:14, 15)? He lulls men into believing that temporary peace is the same as eternal comfort, but in reality, it is a counterfeit crafted to draw men even further from the truth.

Nobody, including Charlie, has claimed that the right is perfect. No creature is. But the ideology of the left includes the destruction of the family through sexual anarchy, the murder of the unborn through abortion, the rejection of God’s created order through gender confusion, and the elevation of man and the state as sovereign rather than God. The bible is clear that if one is in agreement with any of these things, they are complicit with all of them (James 2:10). While neither side is perfect, the right and the left are not the same.

It is true that, as Christians, we long for and desire peace. But peace cannot come at the cost of feigned harmony or the compromise of our biblical convictions – particularly on the altar of unity. We are called to strive for peace with all men so far as it depends on us (Romans 12:18). Yet our greater calling is to proclaim that Christ is King, and that He is returning to judge and to condemn all who persist in rebellion and lawlessness against Him, as sin is lawlessness (Acts 17:31; 1 John 3:4). True and lasting peace will only come when every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10–11).

This is why the call for “unity” by many is a delusion. The world cries for peace where there is no peace (Jeremiah 6:14). Unity apart from Christ is not true unity but rebellion against Him. The only foundation for real unity is the blood of Christ shed for sinners. Only in Him are men and women reconciled to God and, through Him, to one another (Ephesians 2:14–16). Anything else is a counterfeit that serves the devil’s designs.

So, we grieve, and we pray. But we do not compromise. We stand firm in the gospel, knowing that our hope is not in the right or the left, but in the risen Christ who will one day destroy every rule, every authority, and every power (1 Corinthians 15:24). That is our confidence. That is our unity, and that is the greatest expression of love we can share with a fallen and perverse world. Charlie knew this and boldly and lovingly proclaimed these things to all who would listen.

Some think Charlie Kirk was a political activist for the conservative party, but in reality, he was a Christian who had a biblical worldview that informed his understanding of politics, education, family, work, and every other sphere of life. What made Charlie different wasn’t mere party affiliation or activism, but a heart and mind captive to the Word of God. His allegiance was first and foremost to King Jesus, and it was from that allegiance that every conviction and loving action flowed.

As Charles Spurgeon once warned, “To pursue union at the expense of truth is treason to the Lord Jesus.” Yes, we are to love peace, but never at the cost of betraying the King who bought us with His own blood. The believer’s unity is not with the world’s rebellion but with the glory of God in Christ. Anything less is a counterfeit and falls short of our highest calling. May we, like Charlie, be bold and unashamed, declaring to the world that Christ reigns, as we live lives of steadfast loyalty to Him until He comes again. Only then, under the lordship of Christ, will the world know true unity.
